Wisconsin Green Party Commemorates Workers' Memorial Day, Calls for Ecosocialist Solutions

The Wisconsin Green Party honors Workers' Memorial Day, standing in solidarity with the families, friends, and communities affected by the loss of lives, injuries, and illnesses caused by hazardous working conditions. We mourn these tragic losses and demand transformative change to build a society that values people and the planet over profit.

In remembering those who have sacrificed their lives for their livelihoods, we recognize that the capitalist system has consistently prioritized profit over the safety and well-being of workers. As ecosocialists, we envision a future where workplaces are not only safe and healthy but also operate within a sustainable and equitable economic system.

The Wisconsin Green Party calls for bold ecosocialist measures to ensure comprehensive workplace safety reforms:

  1. Democratizing workplaces by promoting worker-owned cooperatives and collective decision-making, empowering workers to prioritize safety and well-being.
  2. Strengthening and enforcing safety regulations with worker-led oversight, holding businesses accountable for any harm caused to workers and the environment.
  3. Ensuring universal access to quality training and education, equipping workers with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for their rights and safety.
  4. Implementing a Green New Deal to create millions of sustainable, unionized jobs, guaranteeing economic security, and protecting workers and the environment from the ravages of climate change.

As we honor the lives lost to workplace tragedies, let us reaffirm our commitment to building an ecosocialist future where no one has to risk their life for a living, and where both workers and the planet are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
