Members and Friends of the Wisconsin Green Party:
Driftless Greens will host the Wisconsin Green Party (WIGP) Spring Gathering in Eau Claire at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire campus, on the afternoon of the 26th of April. The WIGP Coordinating Council (CC) reviewed and approved the Gathering agenda at our April 16th meeting. In addition to our business meeting, we will have two speakers: a student activist speaker, Jake Hicks, and an attorney, Skylar Croy.
Whether you attend the Spring Gathering in person or virtually, you’ll hear a variety of reports on the work the party has been doing since our last Gathering in November 2024, including:
-
Our work in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine as a whole.
-
Our campaign to elect Josh Anderson to Milwaukee’s City Council and subsequent endorsement of Alex Brower, leading to Brower’s election.
-
Initial plans for the 2026 election season.
The 2024 fight to keep Jill Stein on the Wisconsin ballot
In August 2024, the Democratic Party attempted to get the Green Party candidate, Jill Stein, off the presidential ballot in 5 different states, including Wisconsin. They attempted to use existing state law to disqualify the Green Party completely. WIGP Co-Chair, Dr. Michael White, worked with CC member Pete Karas and several law firms to address these issues. Attorney Croy works for WILL – Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty – and filed an Amicus Curiae brief on our behalf. He will brief attendees on what transpired and what legal double standards may currently be found in Wisconsin Statutes putting Greens and other smaller parties who challenge the status quo at a disadvantage or risk of losing ballot status.
Attorney Croy will be speaking as an attorney and private citizen. He will address the matter of state law and Wisconsin Election Commission policies. We have invited the available expert on the matter who came to our assistance to discuss the law and its impact upon us.
Our Values and Theirs
As a political party that stands by its values: Ecological Wisdom, Social Justice, Grassroots Democracy, and Nonviolence, we don’t have much in common with WILL as an organization. We hope that our activists will learn more about election law and how it works to guarantee the two wings of the corporate albatross an advantage every two years. We will spend much more time on April 26 challenging the status quo. Join us!
