Report from the WIGP Fall 2015 Gathering

The Wisconsin Green Party had another successful Fall gathering in Milwaukee in November. Thanks to everyone who came and to our hosts at UW-Milwaukee and Community Uprise!

We elected a full slate of new officers, including Jose Contreras and Bruce Hinkforth as our new Co-Chairs; Mike McCallister as Recording Secretary; Dace Zeps as Corresponding Secretary; and Bobby Gifford as Treasurer. Dace Zeps, Greg Banks, and Bruce Hinkforth will continue as National Committee Delegates, and George Martin will continue as an NC Alternate Delegate. Congratulations and thanks to our new (and continuing) officers!

We also heard from 3 candidates for the Green Party presidential nomination: Bill KremlSedinam Kinamo Christin Moyowasifza Curry, and Jill Stein. We then decided to hold a presidential nominating convention together with our Spring gathering, likely in April 2016.

We reflected on our successful efforts in Spring 2015 local elections, as well as progress in building party membership over the past two years.

In between party business, our guest speakers informed us about critical current issues.George Martin and Julie Enslow spoke about how they and other Greens have led the way in local, national, and international organizing for peace and climate justice. Cheryl Nenn, the Milwaukee Riverkeeper, educated us on water issues, including the Estabrook Dam, protecting the Great Lakes, and the danger posed by oil bomb trains.Alan Schultz informed us about how Community Uprise, based out of UW-Milwaukee, is organizing for criminal justice reform and other important causes in their community. AndAdam Kassulke of Wisconsin Wolf Front spoke about the WI Conservation Congress and attacks on the Department of Natural Resources.

On a personal note, as my term as WIGP Co-Chair comes to an end, I’d like to express my sincere thanks to all the friends and supporters who’ve helped along the way. I’m excited to pass the baton into the capable hands of our new slate of officers, and I'm looking forward to continue working with you all to keep building the party of peace, justice, democracy and ecology.

Speaking of which, everything we do is possible thanks to support from people like you - please take a minute now to become a WIGP member or renew your membership.

Thanks for all that you do!

Forward,
Dave Schwab
WI Green Party Co-Chair
