The Latest on Our Ballot Fight
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is challenging the Green Party’s right to put Jill Stein and Butch Ware, its nominated candidates for President and Vice President on Wisconsin’s general election ballot. We’re going to try to keep you updated on what’s happening. If you see something not listed here, tell us in the comments!
Current Status—August 26, 2024 (Women’s Equality Day)
Today marks the day in 1920 that the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, granting women the right to vote in the United States. Of course, if you lived in the Jim Crow South, and your parents or grandparents were enslaved, things were different.
We’re watching the Wisconsin Supreme Court today. The Democratic National Committee’s lawsuit, Strange v. Wisconsin Elections Commission, could be heard by the court today. On Thursday, the court, in a 5-2 ruling, demanded that the Greens respond to the complaint by 5pm Friday, which we did.
The Elections Commission meets Tuesday to finalize who is on the ballot. If the court has not issued a ruling, the Stein/Ware ticket will be waiting until that ruling. A genuinely nonpartisan court would dismiss the suit entirely.
