WIGP officer self-nomination

Open positions to be elected at the 2023 Fall Gathering:

1 Co-Chair (2 year term, must have been a Green Party member in good standing for at least 1 year prior)

Recording Secretary (1 year term)

Correspondence Secretary (1 year term)

Operations Treasurer (1 year term)

Elections Treasurer (1 year term)

2 National Committee Representatives (1 year term)

2 National Committee Alternates (1 year term)

Coordinating Council Representatives (1 year terms):

The coordinating council meets once per month (usually by conference call/virtually) to make decisions about Green Party activities between our semi-annual membership meetings.  These representatives are often very active in the committees which handle decisions about elections, candidates, events, membership drives, building locals/caucuses/or districts, newsletters, media presence, Green Party materials, the platform, and more.

Besides the 2 Co-Chairs, secretaries, and treasurers, members are elected from a variety of districts, locals, caucuses, and general at-large members for coordinating council representation:

-8 Congressional District Representatives: Each congressional district is to elect one representative

-The Greater Milwaukee Green Party elects one representative

-The Four Lakes Green Party elects one representative

-8 At-large members from any district/local/or group are elected by the general membership

No person can be elected for 2 seats or have more than 1 vote on the coordinating council.  For example, the Greater Milwaukee representative cannot be the same person as one of the 8 at-large or the district representation.  None of the officers (co-chairs, secretaries, or treasurers) can run for these positions because they are already on the coordinating council as officers.  National Committee representatives may run for these seats.

Please identify the position(s) you are running for, and describe your experience with activism and/or the Green Party, as well as why you think you would be a good fit for this position in the box below.

See our Officers and Committees page for descriptions of the roles and responsibilities of Officers and Coordinating Council Members.

Thanks for your interest in building the Wisconsin Green Party!

I am running for National Committee Delegate/Alternate. I have served in this role for two years, and during that time I have been the most active member of the Wisconsin Delegation to the Green Party of the United States National Committee in terms of engagement with topics up for discussion and vote. I have regularly coordinated discussions amongst members of the WIGP delegation and have worked to ensure proposals are discussed and voted on.

I have been nominated and approved twice for the position of GPUS National Committee Forum Manager, a position of significant trust in the national party, most recently in September 2023 by a vote of 76 yes, 3 no, 8 abstain.

If reelected as National Committee Delegate/Alternate, I intend to utilize the Wisconsin Green Party Decision-Making List and the new online voting procedures to provide reports on and seek input on National Committee proposals directly from the Wisconsin Green Party membership.

I am running for Correspondence Secretary in order to be of assistance with the important duties of answering inquiries to the Wisconsin Green Party, and helping maintain the Post Office box in Madison, where I live. I think this would be an excellent opportunity for me to demonstrate my commitment to Green values, which I have demonstrated by voting for Green candidates for many years, and helping spread the word about all the important work that the Wisconsin Green Party is doing. I realize I have much to learn about the many positions and campaigns that the Wisconsin Green Party is working on, and pledge to apply myself diligently to learn these important lessons.

I have been a social worker and substance abuse counselor in the Dane County area for nearly 20 years, and have a strong commitment to values of uplifting people in marginalized communities with the assistance of evidence-based therapeutic techniques.

Coordinating Council representative from CD 3; District 3 has no current formal representation. After not being active for several years, I wish to make sure District 3 has more participation & representation. I was WIGP candidate for Governor in 2018.

I’m seeking re-election as delegate to the Green Party National

Committee. I’ve been active in the WI Greens for years, supporting

organizing through IT support. My issues include peace, climate change,

health freedom, and public banking/monetary reform.

My name is Dusty Hartl. I am 25 years old and I have been a due paying member of the Wisconsin Green Party for two years. I am nominating myself to serve as the 4th congressional district representative or to be an at-large member of the coordinating council.

I studied political science at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and while I was there I served on the Whitewater Student Government for two terms – one appointed and one elected. I was heavily involved in a variety of organizations that fought for justice for domestic violence survivors, LGBTQIA+ initiatives, and the rights of students on campus. Since leaving college, I have been working in property management, but have been hoping to be more involved in local politics.

I believe that I would make a great representative because I know how to organize. I have been organizing for most of my adult life. I believe that when you are so incredibly passionate about something, such as politics, you can transfer that enthusiasm to others you encounter. This is how I was able to build a following of over 250,000 people on Tik Tok. I did this by listening to people, exciting them and talking about topics that are important to them. I believe I could be of use in areas such as social media, outreach, and supporting the party in my district and across the state.

As like many of those involved in the Green Party, I believe we need a more diverse and accepting party that truly believes in equality for all peoples. As a gay man I believe that the Green Party has always been on the right side of history from marriage equality and trans rights to environmental policy and the anti-war movement.

I want to help people and I am willing to commit my time and energy towards building a stronger Green Party if it means my niece will grow up breathing clean air, drinking clean water and having full autonomy of her body.

    Let’s get to work!

I’m Mike McCallister and am nominating myself for two positions: National Committee (NC) and 5th CD representative to the State Coordinating Committee (CC).

As I noted last year, I’ve been an active Green since 1999. I am currently the chair of the Greater Milwaukee Greens Outreach committee after two years as GMGP co-chair. I am an alternate member of the NC, and Milwaukee’s representative on the CC.

I want to be on the NC because I believe the Green Party can grow and meet the massive challenges facing us by focusing its energies on participating in the most important social movements for people and planet:

    • The fight to keep fossil fuels in the ground, and create a new society based on clean energy

    • The fight for a just transition, putting working people and the poor in power

    • The fight for justice and equal rights for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and other people of color; and all oppressed peoples of whatever gender and sexuality they may express.

We need to elect more candidates who stand on these values, principles and strategies. I think we can do this if we stay focused.

I would like to nominate myself for the Green Party Coordinating Committee as the representative of CD 3.

I’ve been involved in a variety of capacities with organizing efforts in the past. I’ve marched with striking workers, joined picket lines, participated in climate marches, I started a campus chapter of the greens at UWSP.

I’ve also been involved in political campaigns as a canvasser from local races up to congressional races.

I’d like to join the CC to help bring my knowledge and perspective to the guidance of the state party and hopefully spark some party growth outside of the Madison and Milwaukee areas.

I’m seeking re-election as an alternate delegate to the Green Party National Committee. I’ve been active in the WI Greens for years, supporting party organizing through IT support, and work on several WIGP committees. My issues include peace, climate change, and public banking/monetary reform.

Also nominating myself (as a second choice) to run as a delegate to the Green Party National Committee.

Also nominating myself as a CD4 rep for the coordinating council — I currently hold this position. Alternatively, I would also accept one of the at large positions for the coordinating council.

I’m Mike McCallister and am seeking re-election as an alternate to the Green Party National Committee. I’ve been an active Green since 1999, first in Boulder, Colorado, then in Milwaukee. I’ve served as a co-chair of the Greater Milwaukee Green Party for the last two years, and was elected as an NC alternate last year.

I’ve fought for independent working class politics for nearly my whole life. Before joining the Greens, I was an activist in the Wisconsin Labor Farm Party, and was chair of the South Central Wisconsin Labor Party Advocates in the 1990s.

In the last year, I’ve learned much about how the Greens on the national level function (and fails to function). I would like to play a role in strengthening the party after this difficult campaign year. Greens need to take the campaign for a Green New Deal to cities, towns and states in 2021 to combat the climate crisis and the crisis of racism.

    I ask for your support.

I would like to self nominate for Congressional District 2 Representative to the coordinating council. I became an official member of the WIGP earlier this year in April, but have a supporter of Green, leftist, and progressive politics since I became politically active. I have been an active participant with the Four Lakes Greens, and have also attended the Green Social functions. I drafted the Four Lakes Greens Racial Justice statement.

It is imperative over the next year that we grow the party both in terms of membership and in terms of participation in activist work. To achieve that we must remain as a party that is welcoming and inclusive of all people regardless of their racial or gender identities. We must stand for and alongside those who are marginalized by society.

I’d like to self-nominate for National Committee Representative. As co-chair of the WIGP, and having worked on campaigns for Jill Stein, Howie Hawkins, Lisa Savage, and others, I’ve been very active building the Green Party in Wisconsin and nationally. Now I’m ready to take my skills, experience, and commitment to the National Committee to help Green Party US grow into the next major party in the United States.

Dear Fellow Green Party Members of Wisconsin,

I joined the Green Party this year soon after I heard that the Georgia Green Party endorsed the Declaration on Women’s Sex Based Rights. Being very active in the feminist movement as a radio show producer for Women’s Liberation Radio News, it caught my interest and rekindled my desire to be both a feminist and an environmental activist.

I was active in the UW Campus Greens in the early 1990’s here in Madison. I have previously worked on Ralph Nader’s campaign and translated a Green Party document from Spanish to English for some Spanish Greens back in the 90’s.

I’ve always considered myself a Green, whether I am active in the party or not. This year, was the year for me to reactivate.

I have decades of experience with environmental and community organizing under my belt. I have successfully organized benefit fundraisers that bring citizens together in solidarity while raising five figures in revenue for causes such as preventing lethal mining in northern Wisconsin and pipeline expansion by Enbridge.

I am a published singer/songwriter and have written several songs for the cause of clean water and Green /Independent Politics. You may explore my music linked below.

I love people and working on ways to find common ground and move forward towards common goals. I offer myself to serve in either or both of these roles:

Congressional District Representative for District 2

    National Committee Representative/Alternate

I hope you will elect me for one or both of the positions I am running for. Thank you and I look forward to meeting folks at the gathering this weekend.

    Thistle Pettersen

    District 2

Hello, my name is Sam Michael and i’d like to be nominated for a national committee representative. I would also be interested in being a recording secretary. I have been with the green party since 2016. I have petitioned for Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker in 2020. I’ve worked with the Green Party At UW-Milwaukee. I think I would be a great recording secretary because i’ve taken notes for peace action Wisconsin, and have had experience with note taking at meetings. As a national committee rep I think I would have some good ideas on how to improve the messaging of the green party, and help make the Green Party a strong viable party in the near future. I would also look to ensure that we have Greens running in every local election.

    Greetings Greens,

I would like to nominate myself for recording secretary. While my service as co-chair will end November 14th, my service in this organization will not. I want to use this position to make myself available to help the next group of Green leaders and continue to share in some of the responsibility of leadership in general.
I also have a checklist of documentation projects from the last few years of having worked in this organization which need to be archived and shared appropriately. I want to improve the processes and availability of WIGP documentation and records for the general membership both for transparency and to make the call to Green leadership easier through the precise documentation and archival organization of the accomplishments, routines, and challenges experienced in previous Green administrations. As the recording secretary, I would be able to focus on the archival activities which are vital, yet underperformed by our activists who have their attention split between many activities.

Digitizing old documents for widespread access and searchability, aggregating digital information into one organized, user friendly, searchable location are a few of these projects. Another is to work with the membership committee and corresponding secretary on how to access up-to-date information on committee decisions to ensure members are more able to become actively involved in helping the Green Party voice get louder and the Green organization grow. I have been taking minutes for WIGP committees and filled in on this task at the coordinating council level over the years. I think my activity here has proven my capabilities in performing the main tasks of this office- namely reliability and routine minute-taking, and I would be happy to continue working in this capacity.

Thank you all for your consideration,

    Barbara Dahlgren
