Hello. I’m wondering if the Wisconsin Green Party has any officials running for office, or has plans to run anyone for office, in the present or near future; or, for that matter, how often/how successful Greens have been in the past here in our state. I ask because I’m trying to establish a plan to change the way our voting operates in Wisconsin from its current system to ranked-choice voting. As you may or may not be aware, ranked-choice voting (or instant run-off voting) is beneficial in places where races often involve more than two candidates and a winner receives less than a real majority (more than 50%) of the votes cast. In the RCV system, the last place vote-getter (i.e. the person with the least amount of first place votes) “loses,” and all first place votes cast for that candidate are given to the voters’ second choice. Maine is currently in the process of bringing this in front of their state legislature and, after I learned about it, I thought it might be something worth trying here in Wisconsin to open the gates, so to speak, for alternative political opinions to be heard. In addition, RCV helps to prevent manipulation of votes or election fraud. It’s one of the safest systems in use.

I realize this was kind of a mess, but any information on the Greens and their history here in Wisconsin that can be provided would be appreciated as I feel it will be beneficial to what I’m trying to accomplish. Thank you.
